Score Study

SCORE STUDY IN NEW YORK CITY JANUARY 15-17, 2018

Three days of intensive Score Study in Manhattan.  Alice shares her experience with many styles of music, and discusses the process from the composer's intention to the written page.

This year we will study Benjamin Britten's Choral Dances from the opera Gloriana,.  These colorful pieces form a masque in the opera which was performed for Queen Elizabeth I on her visit to Norwich and was performed by local people in her honor.  The repertoire also includes Alice Parker's Angels and Challengers, a cantata with chamber instruments with poems by May Sarton, and also a selection of Psalms by Heinrich Schütz which are from a collection of the Schütz psalms being adapted by Alice in collaboration with Gracia Grindal as translator of the texts.
